Sisseton celebrated the completion of the
LeadershipPlenty portion of the Horizons project with ice cream cake and a lot of momentum for future projects. The group is working on marketing the Horizons project and getting input from community members at the upcoming Horse and Buggy Days, an annual summer event. Volunteers will be handing out free bottles of water to people who are willing to take a few minutes to fill out a survey about poverty/needs in their community. The water bottles will have a specially printed Horizons label. What a fun idea!
Sisseton is also planning on educating more people about how poverty affects everyone in their community. They are purchasing several copies of the Ruby Payne books about poverty and are planning a
symposium/conference later this fall for both youth and adults. It is exciting to see some new projects getting underway in
Sisseton!
